702 bolsters political coverage with Karima Brown
702 is beefing up on specialised political coverage ahead of the ANC’s National Elective Conference in December and the 2019 elections, and will be launching a hard-hitting show with heavyweight political analyst and commentator, Karima Brown.
The show, which starts on 2 October will broadcast from 8pm to 10pm, Monday to Thursday and will bring the big names and newsmakers into the discussion, as Karima helps audiences to make sense of the issues of the day.
“South Africa is highly politically charged and our audiences are showing an increased need for deeper understanding of the stories and issues making the headlines daily,” said 702 station manager, Thabisile Mbete.
“Karima’s extensive experience covering and commentating on South African politics, as well as her ability to pull in the key individuals, make her an ideal host for this new show,” she added.
Karima has been hosting a weekly politics wrap on the station on Sunday nights since the beginning of the year and is also eNCA’s resident analyst. She is a highly regarded journalist with a lengthy list of credentials including Political Editor at _Business_Day; Group Executive Editor at the IndependentGroup; she launched Forbes Women Africa magazine, and has hosted PoliticalExchange and Beyond Markets on CNBC Africa. In addition to her media work, Karima is a sought after facilitator and commentator for corporates and other organisations trying to make sense of the big issues facing the country.
“I’m excited to bring the big names in the political sphere to the show, to discuss the issues and answer to 702 listeners,” said Karima. “The political stories that are dominating headlines are increasingly complex, and important for citizens to understand and I hope to play a role in helping them to connect the dots.”
The change means that Night Talk with Gugs will move out by an hour and will run from 10pm to midnight. Gugu will be followed by Aubrey Masango from midnight to 4am, and the Early Breakfast show with Relebogile Mabotja will broadcast from 4am to 6am.
